Dr Tasnim Ahsan

Prof. Emerita Tasnim Ahsan is a graduate of Dow Medical College (DMC) and did her postgraduate training in the UK. She obtained MRCP(UK) in 1983; awarded fellowship of all three Royal Colleges of UK. Honorary FCPS conferred by College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). Served in DMC for 4.5 years as Assistant Professor and then worked at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for 25 years. Retired as Executive Director (2009-2015), Professor and Head of the Department of Medicine in 2015. Honorary title of Professor Emerita conferred by JPMC in 2018.
Established the first Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism in the public sector in Pakistan at JPMC in 1992. Established the first Department of Rheumatology in the public sector at JPMC in 2004. Established Medicell Institute of Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism (MIDEM) in 2017. Appointed as Director, Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology at OMI, 2021.
Served as the Dean, and currently Secretary, Faculty of Endocrinology & Diabetes at CPSP. Accredited Supervisor for training in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology & Diabetes at CPSP.
Appointed member of the Higher Education Commission Board on ‘Biological & Health Sciences’ in 2020. Member of the Executive Board of ‘Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre’.
Founder member of Pakistan Endocrine Society. Founder and President of Medicine & Endocrine Foundation working to assist patients in JPMC, development of endocrine services and research in this area.
Has published numerous articles in national and international journals. Serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of journals; reviews scientific papers and research proposals submitted for funding to research organizations. Member of ‘Diabetes Advisory Boards’ of various pharmaceutical companies. Also served as member of the ‘Pakistan Medical Research Council Advisory Board’ on Medicine.
She has mentored over 100 Internists and Endocrinologists. Currently works in JPMC in the honorary capacity of Professor Emerita, as Dean of MIDEM and as Director of Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology at OMI Institute.
